Wizkid’s hit single Joro has reached an exciting new milestone in the U.S., becoming the latest Afrobeats track to qualify for an RIAA gold certification. Released in September 2019, Joro is now eligible for this prestigious recognition after reaching 500,000 units in sales in the United States.
Produced by Northboi, Joro has captivated audiences both in Nigeria and around the world, helping to propel Afrobeats onto the global stage. The song’s popularity is evident through its impressive streaming numbers: it has garnered over 125 million streams on Spotify and has become one of the most-watched Afrobeats music videos on YouTube, racking up 290 million views.
This achievement adds to Wizkid’s extensive list of RIAA certifications, solidifying his position as the most certified Nigerian artist in the U.S. The Grammy-winning star is also the only Nigerian artist with a diamond-certified song in the U.S., thanks to his feature on Drake’s global hit One Dance.
His other RIAA certifications include a 4x platinum plaque for Essence featuring Tems and gold plaques for Come Closer with Drake, Soco, Mood featuring BNXN, Call Me Everyday with Chris Brown, and Brown Skin Girl with Beyoncé and Saint Jhn. Additionally, Wizkid’s Grammy-nominated fourth album Made In Lagos is one of only four Nigerian projects to receive RIAA certification.
With Joro joining his collection of certified hits, Wizkid continues to lead the way in bringing Afrobeats to an ever-growing global audience.
