Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) has reclaimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart for a 16th nonconsecutive week, surging from No. 8 to No. 1 on the chart dated Dec. 14. This resurgence follows the physical release of the album’s deluxe Anthology edition, which became available exclusively at Target on Nov. 29. The album earned an impressive 405,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 5—an 839% increase—according to Luminate. This marks the biggest sales week for any album since TTPD’s second week in April, when it logged 439,000 units.
Originally released on April 19 as a standard 16-song digital download, TTPD quickly expanded into a 31-song deluxe Anthology edition just hours after its debut. While the expanded edition was initially only available as a digital and streaming release, its physical versions—featuring four bonus acoustic tracks—sparked renewed interest when they launched at Target.
Of the 405,000 units earned last week, traditional album sales accounted for 368,000 (up a staggering 4,377%), including 191,000 vinyl sales and 177,000 CDs. Streaming equivalent albums (SEA) made up 37,000 units, reflecting 48.19 million on-demand streams, while track equivalent albums (TEA) contributed a negligible amount.
TTPD’s return to the top coincides with the conclusion of Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour, which wrapped up Dec. 8 in Vancouver after 149 dates spanning five continents.
Chart Milestones
With a 16th week at No. 1, TTPD surpasses Carole King’s Tapestry (15 weeks) to claim the third-most weeks at No. 1 among albums by women in Billboard history. Only Adele’s 21 (24 weeks) and Whitney Houston’s The Bodyguard soundtrack (20 weeks) have spent more time at the top. Swift now holds 85 career weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, extending her record for solo artists.
This achievement is also Swift’s longest-leading album on the Billboard 200, outpacing the 15 weeks logged by 1989 in 2014-15.
