Dua Lipa Calls 2024 ‘The Best Year of My Life’ as She Reflects on Unforgettable Achievements

Dua Lipa has called 2024 “the best year of my life,” and it’s hard to argue with her. The British pop sensation has had an extraordinary year, achieving a lengthy list of musical milestones that seem almost unreal. This year alone, she released Radical Optimism, her highly anticipated third studio album, and embarked on her largest global tour to date. One of the highlights was her groundbreaking performance at the Glastonbury Festival, where she became the first British woman to headline since 2016.

Beyond that, Dua Lipa filmed a TV special at London’s Royal Albert Hall, performed alongside legends like Cher, Elton John, and Chris Stapleton, and made a fun cameo on Charli XCX’s remixed version of “brat.” The global crowds have been wildly receptive, with Lipa describing her recent tour stops in Asia, including Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Tokyo, as some of the loudest and most energetic she’s ever experienced.

The release of Radical Optimism in May was a massive success. The album debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and had the biggest opening week by a British female artist since Adele’s 30 in 2021. It also claimed the top spot in multiple European countries, including Spain, France, and The Netherlands, and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, marking her highest debut in the U.S. The album’s lead single, “Houdini,” dominated the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for 17 consecutive weeks.

As part of Billboard U.K.’s Global No. 1s series, which highlights the most successful international artists of the past year, Lipa reflects on the creation of Radical Optimism with a star-studded house band that included Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, superproducer Andrew Wyatt, and hyperpop icon Danny L Harle. The album blends psychedelic-pop with elements of U.K. rave culture, a shift from her previous disco-infused work. The songs found their true test in October with a spectacular performance at the Royal Albert Hall, where Lipa was joined by a 53-piece orchestra and 14 choristers. The event was recorded for a TV special, An Evening With Dua Lipa, and a live album, Dua Lipa Live at the Royal Albert Hall, which are both available now.
