Tinashe is celebrating the biggest Billboard 200 debut of her career after her latest album, “Popstar,” opened at No. 6 on the chart dated Oct. 10. The milestone gives the singer her first top 10 album on the Billboard 200 and surpasses the previous career peak established by her 2014 debut, “Aquarius.”
The singer reacted to the news on social media Monday, Oct. 5, writing, “I’m so unbelievably grateful, this is CRAZY! #6 BILLBOARD DEBUT,” before thanking her fans for their support. She later added, “I’m cryinggggg,” as she continued celebrating the chart result.

“Popstar” earned 35,500 equivalent album units in the United States during its opening tracking week, according to Luminate. The total included 22,000 copies in traditional album sales, making the project’s sales performance a significant part of its first-week result.
The No. 6 debut marks a substantial improvement over “Aquarius,” which debuted and peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 in 2014. Tinashe’s subsequent albums also charted, with “Nightride” reaching No. 89 and “Joyride” peaking at No. 58.
Her recent independent releases had produced lower Billboard 200 positions, with “Quantum Baby” reaching No. 199 in 2024. “Popstar” now represents her highest placement since beginning her recording career more than a decade ago.
The new album arrived Sept. 25 through Nice Life Recording Company and Atlantic Records, with Tinashe Music also involved in the release. The 16-track project includes songs such as “Sunglasses,” “Too Easy,” “Melatonin,” “Flashbacks,” “Crash Out,” “Nobody Wanna Dance Anymore,” “Popstar” and “Cloud 9.”
The album follows a period of renewed commercial attention for Tinashe. Her 2024 single “Nasty” became a viral hit and reached No. 61 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving her a new solo entry on the chart roughly a decade after her earlier breakthrough.
She followed that success with “No Broke Boys,” her collaboration with Disco Lines. The song reached No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.
Tinashe’s Billboard 200 milestone has also drawn congratulations from fellow artists. Victoria Monét publicly celebrated the singer after she announced the No. 6 debut, adding to the social-media response surrounding the career-high chart performance.
With “Popstar,” Tinashe has now recorded her first Billboard 200 top 10 album and her highest debut on the chart, while the project continues its release-week run across streaming and sales platforms.
