Missy Elliott Pushes for “Car Wash” With Christina Aguilera to Finally Hit Streaming

Missy Elliott is ready to give fans what they’ve been asking for, or at least convince the right people to make it happen. After years of listeners searching in vain for her “Car Wash” collaboration with Christina Aguilera from the Shark Tale soundtrack, the rap icon took to X to publicly call on the powers that be.

Responding to a fan who seemed genuinely heartbroken that the track wasn’t available anywhere, Missy tagged Universal Music Group and Geffen Records with a direct message: fans want answers, and it’s time the song came to streaming.

The 2004 cover served as the movie’s energetic finale, blending Christina Aguilera’s powerhouse vocals with Missy’s playful shark-themed bars — including the now-iconic line, “Y’all can make your bets, y’all small tuna fish, I’m one big catch.” Despite its popularity, the track has remained mysteriously absent from streaming platforms for nearly two decades.

Missy’s renewed push arrives just as she’s receiving fresh praise from peers in the industry. Victoria Monét recently spoke about how long overdue it is for the legendary rapper to receive a proper tribute and the full flowers she deserves. Monét highlighted Missy’s unmatched longevity, noting that she still performs with the energy and precision of her early years. “She’s still performing like she’s in her 20s,” she said, adding that Missy’s impact spans generations and shaped the childhoods of countless artists.

Whether Missy’s public call will finally bring “Car Wash” to streaming is yet to be seen, but one thing is clear: fans want it, Missy wants it, and the nostalgia is ready to resurface.
