Wisin has entered a new chapter in his career with the launch of Universidad del Perreo, a new album and educational platform designed to celebrate the roots of reggaetón while connecting the genre’s pioneers with a younger generation.
The Puerto Rican artist, whose real name is Juan Luis Morera Luna, released the 12-track project through his own La Base Music Group. The album brings together several established names from reggaetón, including Ivy Queen, Don Chezina, Jory Boy, Jowell & Randy, Trébol Clan, Franco El Gorilla and Juanka El Problematik. Colombian artist Kapo also appears as part of the project and is being presented as the first “graduate” of the musical university.
The project goes beyond the album itself. Wisin has launched UniversidadDelPerreo.com, where fans can register for exclusive educational content focused on reggaetón culture, songwriting, production and the music business. According to Wisin, more than 2 million people had registered for the platform by the time of his Billboard interview.
The initiative is also expected to include masterclasses featuring influential figures from the genre. Wisin named producers and pioneers including Luny Tunes, DJ Nelson and Playero among those involved in the planned educational content. In-person courses are also being planned for Puerto Rico, Miami, Bogotá and Mexico City.
Wisin described the album as a return to the original sound of reggaetón and said the project is intended to document the genre’s history while introducing younger listeners and aspiring artists to the people who helped establish the movement. The educational material will include lessons covering production, songwriting and different aspects of building a career in the music industry.
Ivy Queen has a particularly prominent place in the project. Wisin highlighted her role as one of reggaetón’s pioneering artists and said her contribution represents an important part of the genre’s history. The album also reunites Wisin with several artists and collaborators whose work helped shape the sound associated with earlier eras of reggaetón.
Alongside the album announcement, Wisin revealed a new management arrangement with D27 Entertainment, the company founded by his longtime manager Chris Duque. The move ends Wisin’s nearly decade-long professional relationship with Walter Kolm and places Duque in an independent management role for the artist.
Wisin and Duque have previously worked together on several major career developments, including Wisin’s Billboard chart success, the Wisin & Yandel reunion tour and the establishment of La Base Music Group. The new management agreement now formalizes their next phase of collaboration.
The launch of Universidad del Perreo comes as Wisin continues to build on more than two decades in Latin urban music. The project combines new music with an effort to preserve and explain the history of reggaetón, bringing together veteran performers, producers and newer artists under one platform.
Wisin’s latest project is now available through digital music platforms, while the Universidad del Perreo educational initiative is continuing to develop with additional masterclasses, courses and experiences expected to be announced.
