Universal Pictures’ upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic has continued to expand its cast, with the latest additions bringing The Notorious B.I.G., RBX and Big Reecie Cup into the story. The film, titled Snoop, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Aug. 6, 2027, with Jonathan Daviss leading the cast as Snoop Dogg.
Daviss, known for Outer Banks, will portray Snoop, whose story forms the center of the film. Snoop himself is among the producers, with the project being made through his Death Row Pictures partnership with NBCUniversal Entertainment and Studios. Craig Brewer, whose credits include Hustle & Flow, is directing from a revised screenplay based on Joe Robert Cole’s original script.
Myles Bullock has been cast as Dr. Dre, one of the most important figures in Snoop’s early career. Dre helped introduce Snoop to a wider hip-hop audience and produced his 1993 debut album, Doggystyle. The film is expected to cover their professional relationship during the rise of Death Row Records and West Coast hip-hop.
Camron Jones will portray Tupac Shakur. Snoop and 2Pac were labelmates at Death Row Records during the 1990s, and their friendship and professional relationship became part of one of the most prominent periods in hip-hop history. Jones’ casting was announced in August as the production continued to assemble the figures surrounding Snoop’s career.
Algee Smith has been cast as Warren G, Snoop’s childhood friend from Long Beach. Warren G was also connected to Snoop’s introduction to Dr. Dre, making his role part of the story of how Snoop moved from his hometown into the emerging West Coast rap scene.
Tre Hale will play Suge Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records. Knight was instrumental in bringing Snoop to the label in the early 1990s, when Death Row was becoming one of the dominant forces in hip-hop. Laya DeLeon Hayes has also been cast as Shante Broadus, Snoop’s wife, while Lauren London will portray his late mother, Beverly Tate.
The cast also includes Corey Champagne as Nate Dogg, Snoop’s cousin and longtime collaborator, along with Olly Sholotan as Kurupt and Jonica Booth as The Lady of Rage. All three were connected to the Death Row-era West Coast hip-hop community and Snoop’s early recording career.
The latest casting announcement added SwayvoTwain as The Notorious B.I.G. Born Michael D’Angelo Archer II, SwayvoTwain is the son of late R&B artists D’Angelo and Angie Stone. The role marks a major acting opportunity for the recording artist, who is also known for his own music. Biggie and Snoop were prominent figures on opposite sides of the 1990s East Coast-West Coast divide, although the two rappers shared mutual respect.
Bentley Green has also joined the film as RBX, whose real name is Eric Dwayne Collins and who was associated with Death Row Records during its early years. West Coast rapper G Perico will portray Big Reecie Cup, a figure connected to Snoop’s Long Beach upbringing. These additions bring the current announced ensemble further into the rapper’s early personal and musical history.
The film is being produced by Brian Grazer, Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. Universal has described Snoop as the definitive biopic of the rapper, mogul and entertainment figure, with the production incorporating music from Snoop’s extensive catalog. The movie remains scheduled for a wide theatrical release on Aug. 6, 2027.
