SwayvoTwain, the son of late R&B and soul stars D’Angelo and Angie Stone, has been cast as The Notorious B.I.G. in the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic Snoop. Universal Pictures announced the casting as the film continues to expand its ensemble ahead of its planned theatrical release in 2027.
SwayvoTwain, whose birth name is Michael D’Angelo Archer II, is a 29-year-old recording artist, songwriter and performer. The role marks his first major film appearance, adding an acting project to a music career that has included releases such as “DoveSoar” and “Ms. Angie’s Son.”
The casting was first reported by Variety, with SwayvoTwain confirming his involvement on Instagram on Sept. 8. He referenced one of Biggie’s best-known opening lines in his announcement, writing, “It’s all good baby, BABYYY.”
Biggie, born Christopher Wallace, was one of the defining figures of 1990s hip-hop and represented the East Coast during the era’s highly publicized rivalry with West Coast artists. Although Snoop Dogg was closely associated with Death Row Records and the West Coast, the two rappers had a relationship marked by mutual respect and crossed paths during the height of the rivalry.
Snoop has previously spoken about his relationship with Biggie and recalled the rapper playing him an early version of “Somebody’s Gotta Die” during a studio visit. Snoop has also described Biggie’s reaction following Tupac Shakur’s death and later characterized Biggie’s decision to reference him on Life After Death as a sign of growing respect between the two artists.
Jonathan Daviss is leading the film as Snoop Dogg. The supporting cast includes Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith as Warren G, Tre Hale as Suge Knight, Lauren London as Snoop’s mother Beverly Tate, Laya DeLeon Hayes as Shante Broadus, Olly Sholotan as Kurupt, Corey Champagne as Nate Dogg and Jonica Booth as The Lady of Rage.
Universal also announced Bentley Green as RBX and G Perico as Big Reecie Cup. RBX was part of Death Row’s early history and was associated with Snoop during the label’s rise, while Big Reecie Cup is being portrayed as a figure connected to Snoop’s Long Beach beginnings.
Craig Brewer, whose credits include Hustle & Flow, is directing Snoop. The screenplay is based on an original script treatment by Joe Robert Cole, with Brewer handling a rewrite. Snoop Dogg is producing the project alongside Brian Grazer and Sara Ramaker.
Universal has set Aug. 6, 2027, as the U.S. theatrical release date for Snoop. The film is expected to chronicle the rapper’s rise from Long Beach and his early years in hip-hop through his emergence as one of the genre’s most recognizable figures, with Biggie and other major artists appearing as part of that story.
