Stella Lefty is reacting with laughter to a “Saturday Night Live” sketch that pokes fun at the controversy surrounding her songwriting credits. The singer responded to the segment after the show shared a cut-for-time “Weekend Update” sketch featuring cast member Veronika Slowikowska portraying Lefty and joking about the similarities between her songs and other popular releases.
Lefty shared her reaction on Instagram, commenting, “i’m so dead,” while praising Slowikowska’s singing voice. She also described the sketch as “funny asf tbh” in an Instagram Story on Oct. 1, adding that the comedian had an “amazing” voice.

The sketch features “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost introducing the fictional version of Lefty to discuss her breakout single “Boston” and the debate over its songwriting credits. During the segment, Slowikowska’s character insists that she simply writes songs and describes the process as magic, prompting Jost to respond humorously to her claims.
The comedy segment also features the fictional Lefty performing snippets of songs with lyrics and titles that echo recognizable hits by artists including Chappell Roan, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift and Barenaked Ladies. One parody transforms the idea behind Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” into “Big Boston Pub,” while another reworks Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” around the city of Boston.
The sketch draws on the public discussion surrounding “Boston,” which gained widespread attention and climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Listeners had pointed out similarities between the song and Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season,” leading to Kahan receiving songwriting credit on Lefty’s single. Lefty has previously said she was not thinking about Kahan when she wrote the song.
The songwriting discussion has also extended to other tracks from Lefty’s debut album, Long Way Home. Her song “Summer You Were Mine” drew attention over its use of elements associated with The Chicks’ “There’s Your Trouble,” while “Why Wouldn’t We” prompted comparisons with Blake Shelton’s “I’ll Name the Dogs.” The claims have contributed to wider online scrutiny of her songwriting.
Lefty released Long Way Home on Aug. 21, 2026. The 14-track debut includes songs such as “Lean In, Kiss Me,” “Thinking ’bout You,” “Bottom,” “I Know I Know” and “Something To Lose,” featuring Vincent Mason. She has also discussed the personal effort behind making the album and her pride in the finished recordings.
The “Saturday Night Live” segment was shared as a cut-for-time sketch from the show’s “Weekend Update” coverage. Lefty’s response has added a new development to the public conversation around “Boston,” her songwriting credits and the attention surrounding her rapid rise in country and pop music.
