AC/DC Brings Out Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl for ‘Highway to Hell’ at MetLife Show

AC/DC brought out Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl for a performance of “Highway to Hell” during the band’s Power Up Tour finale at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Oct. 2. Grohl joined the Australian rock legends onstage for the classic song after Foo Fighters had opened the concert.

The MetLife Stadium show had originally been scheduled for Sept. 25 but was postponed because of dangerous weather conditions caused by a nor’easter. AC/DC rescheduled the concert for Oct. 2 and announced that Foo Fighters would serve as the opening act for the new date.

During AC/DC’s set, singer Brian Johnson introduced Grohl as a “very good friend” who had asked to join the band for “Highway to Hell.” Grohl came onto the stage with a guitar and performed alongside Johnson, guitarist Angus Young and the rest of AC/DC.

The collaboration came after Grohl spoke during Foo Fighters’ opening set about his lifelong connection to AC/DC. He recalled watching the band’s 1980 concert film “Let There Be Rock” when he was 11 and said the experience convinced him that he wanted to spend his life performing rock music.

Grohl had another opportunity to share a stage with AC/DC earlier in the tour when Foo Fighters stepped in as the opening act for the band’s Sept. 8 concert in St. Louis. The group had filled in for The Pretty Reckless, whose singer Taylor Momsen was unavailable because of a scheduled Soundgarden appearance in Seattle.

Foo Fighters’ MetLife set included “All My Life,” “The Pretender,” “Times Like These,” “My Hero,” “Learn to Fly,” “This Is a Call,” “Monkey Wrench,” “Best of You” and “Everlong.” Grohl then returned later in the evening for his guest appearance with AC/DC.

AC/DC’s set featured songs including “Back in Black,” “Thunderstruck,” “Hells Bells,” “Shoot to Thrill,” “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” “High Voltage,” “You Shook Me All Night Long” and “Let There Be Rock,” followed by an encore featuring “T.N.T.” and “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You).”

The concert marked the end of AC/DC’s Power Up Tour, which began in 2024 in support of the band’s 2020 album “Power Up.” The group has not announced whether another tour will follow, although Johnson told the MetLife crowd at the end of the performance that he hoped they would see AC/DC again.

The appearance also marked another major Foo Fighters connection with AC/DC during the band’s 2026 touring run, with Grohl’s performance of “Highway to Hell” closing the Power Up Tour with a collaboration between two generations of rock performers.
