Rapper Fetty Wap, born Willie Junior Maxwell II, has been released from prison ahead of schedule, returning home 11 months earlier than previously expected after serving more than three years of his federal sentence on drug trafficking charges.
Federal prison records and representatives confirmed that Fetty Wap walked out of his facility on January 8, 2026, marking a significant shift from the earlier anticipated release date of December 2026.
In his first statement following his release, the “Trap Queen” artist expressed gratitude to his family, friends and fans for their support throughout his incarceration. Fetty Wap said his focus is now on community initiatives and foundation work to support at-risk children, including expanding access to education, early tech skills and vision care for young kids and students.
Fetty Wap’s imprisonment stemmed from a federal conviction in 2023 for conspiracy to distribute at least 500 grams of cocaine, connected to a drug trafficking network transporting drugs across New York and New Jersey. He was sentenced to six years in prison and five years of supervised release.
His time served included incarceration at a low-security facility in Minnesota, with his sentence gradually being moved up before his early release. After exiting prison, Fetty Wap will spend the next several years under supervised release with specific conditions, including drug testing, reporting requirements, and oversight from U.S. probation authorities.
On social media, Fetty Wap confirmed he is “Home” and shared plans to move forward with purpose, while his unexpected return to freedom has generated widespread attention across music and hip-hop communities.
