Zara Larsson says she still has more she wants to accomplish with her Midnight Sun era, including giving her song “Blue Moon” greater attention. In a Billboard interview published Sept. 17, the Swedish pop star said she wants to continue promoting the track rather than immediately moving on to her next project.
Larsson said she considers “Blue Moon” a companion to “Midnight Sun,” the title track from her latest album, and believes the song deserves a music video and additional promotion. She also said she wants to use TikTok to continue introducing the track to listeners who may not have discovered it yet.
The Midnight Sun era has included a strong run of international performances and viral audience moments. Larsson pointed to footage from festivals, including a drone-shot crowd video, a fan joining her onstage at Lollapalooza and an audience interaction in Belgium, as examples of moments that developed organically during her shows.
Commercially, Midnight Sun reached No. 36 on the Billboard 200, while its title track peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Larsson has continued taking the album to stages around the world, including her recent appearance at Rock in Rio in Brazil, where her set included “Blue Moon” alongside songs from across her catalog.
Larsson was also asked about her long-term ambitions and whether headlining Coachella is something she hopes to achieve. She called it her “dream,” while acknowledging that she does not consider herself ready for that position yet. She said she wants her eventual headlining performance to feel sufficiently large and significant that it becomes an obvious moment in her career.
The singer has also been reflecting on her growing involvement in her career. After years in the music business, Larsson said she is increasingly taking control of her artistry and becoming more involved in decisions surrounding both her music and the business side of her career.
During the interview, Larsson was also asked about Macklemore and his willingness to speak publicly about issues that can generate disagreement among audiences. Larsson said she respects his decision to speak out and described the ability of people to come together around an artist’s message as powerful.
Larsson’s comments came as she continues promoting Midnight Sun while acknowledging that she already has more new music in development. She said she wants to give the current album additional time before fully moving into the next phase of her career, with “Blue Moon” remaining one of the songs she plans to keep pushing.
