Dexter and the Moonrocks have revealed the complete track list for their debut full-length album, Friends That I Don’t Like. The 14-track project is scheduled for release Oct. 2, 2026, following the West Texas band’s rapid rise with its “Western space grunge” sound.
The album includes the band’s breakthrough single “Freakin’ Out,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart for five weeks and became the group’s first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, where it reached No. 33. The project also features “12 Steps,” the band’s collaboration with Treaty Oak Revival.
Country singer Avery Anna appears on “Why Don’t You Say So,” giving the album another country-rock collaboration. According to drummer Ryan Fox, the collaboration came together quickly after the two artists connected online, with Anna already familiar with the band through “Freakin’ Out.”
The album opens with “Don’t Wanna Be High,” followed by “Mull It Over” and “Said What I Said.” The fourth track is “Why Don’t You Say So” featuring Avery Anna, followed by “It’s A Lot,” “Complacent” and “Let It Hurt.”
The middle portion of the album continues with “12 Steps” featuring Treaty Oak Revival, “Under The Weather,” “Space Invader” and “If You Could Talk.” “If You Could Talk” was released as a single in July and was written by frontman James Tuffs about his young son and the experience of being separated from family while touring.
The final stretch features “Freakin’ Out,” followed by “Embarrassing” and “Outro (Is DeMar DeRozan Dexter?).” The full track list brings together previously released material and new songs while maintaining the band’s blend of alternative rock, country influences and heavier guitar-driven sounds.
Friends That I Don’t Like follows the band’s earlier releases, including the Donkey Flats EP. Dexter and the Moonrocks formed in Texas in 2021 and developed their “Western space grunge” description around a sound that combines country songwriting with alternative and hard-rock influences.
The album’s release also comes as the group prepares for an extensive run of shows across the United States, Canada and Australia. The tour is scheduled to begin Sept. 24, with dates extending into February 2027. The band’s official site is currently promoting the album for preorder.
