Nicki Minaj Does ‘Beez in the Trap’ Trend With Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent (Kind Of)

Rapper Nicki Minaj recently joined U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a viral TikTok-style trend as part of a promotional effort for the federal Trump Accounts initiative at a summit held this week. In a video posted Tuesday, Feb. 3, on the official Trump Accounts profile on X, Minaj and Bessent stood back-to-back while a mashup of Minaj’s 2012 hit “Beez in the Trap” and 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up?” played, with Minaj energetically lip-synching and dancing her own lyrics while Bessent remained mostly motionless and nodded along.

The video was shared to highlight the new investment accounts program for children, scheduled to launch this summer, which the administration says will help families build long-term savings. Clips from the summit also show Minaj alongside Bessent during parts of the event, including on stage with former President Donald Trump as he spoke about the initiative.

Social media reactions to the trend have been mixed, with some online commentators finding the video unusual or “cringey,” while others praised the pairing of Minaj’s pop culture presence with a government initiative.

The Trump Accounts pilot program aims to offer tax-advantaged savings accounts with an initial deposit for children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, with the promotional push including this trend appearance featuring Minaj and the Treasury secretary.
