Chris Schwartz is expanding Ruffnation Entertainment’s vinyl operation with the launch of Vinyl Societe, a new subscription service focused exclusively on hip-hop records. The service is scheduled to launch at midnight on Halloween, Oct. 31, 2026, with the titles included in the first offering expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Ruffnation has been developing its high-end vinyl business through releases of classic and newer underground hip-hop albums. The company began the initiative on Record Store Day in April 2025 with Wu-Tang Clan and Mathematics’ Black Samson, the Bastard Swordsman, followed by Ice Cube’s Man Up in December. In 2026, the lineup has included RZA’s Bobby Digital Presents: The Juice Crew and the Man With the Iron Fists soundtrack, both released for Record Store Day in April.

The records are produced as limited collector editions with audiophile-grade vinyl and distinctive artwork. Schwartz said Ruffnation is working with a state-of-the-art pressing plant and a company capable of producing one-of-one variable printing, allowing the company to develop additional collector-focused releases.
The next releases in Ruffnation’s pipeline include Juvenile’s Boiling Point and Erick Sermon’s Dynamic Duos. A pre-registration campaign for the limited-edition Boiling Point release is scheduled to begin Sept. 18, with the preorder set for Oct. 12, while Dynamic Duos is scheduled for Oct. 23.
Vinyl Societe will operate through preorders and is expected to charge subscribers between $40 and $45 per month. Schwartz said the service is being designed around collectors who specifically want hip-hop music rather than a broader subscription catalog covering multiple genres.
The subscription service is also expected to include additional collector items alongside the records. Planned extras include a bonus CD and a 12-by-24-inch one-of-one poster, adding physical merchandise to the vinyl releases.
Schwartz is targeting between 7,000 and 10,000 subscribers during Vinyl Societe’s first year. He pointed to the response to Ruffnation’s Black Samson vinyl release as an indication of demand, noting that the double-LP limited edition sold 5,000 copies at $59.90 each.
The new venture comes shortly after Columbia House announced that it was ending its 71-year mail-order membership music and DVD service. Schwartz said Vinyl Societe will take a more focused approach by concentrating its subscription model on listeners who are specifically interested in hip-hop.
Schwartz has been involved in hip-hop’s music business for decades. He co-founded Ruffhouse Records with Joe Nicolo in 1989, with the label becoming home to artists including The Fugees, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Cypress Hill, Nas, Kris Kross, DMX and Jermaine Dupri. After later iterations of the company, Schwartz relaunched the operation as Ruffnation Entertainment.
With Vinyl Societe scheduled to begin on Oct. 31, Ruffnation is continuing to expand its physical-music business around limited-edition hip-hop releases, collector artwork and subscription-based distribution. The titles for the first subscription offering are expected to be revealed ahead of the launch.
