DJ Premier & Roc Marciano Talk ‘The Coldest Profession’ & Today’s Rap Landscape: ‘We Breaking That Mold’

DJ Premier and Roc Marciano’s EP The Coldest Profession dropped on August 8, 2025, marking the culmination of a creative journey that began nearly two decades ago. They first sparked the idea for a joint project during a chance encounter at Macy’s in Herald Square—an “Armani Section” moment that eventually inspired both the title and aesthetic of their collaboration.

The EP spans eight tracks, including “Arrival,” “Armani Section,” “Prayer Hands,” “Good To Go,” “Glory Hole,” “RocMarkable,” “Travel Fox,” and “Execution Style,” all produced by DJ Premier.

The second single, “Prayer Hands,” lays a minimalist groove underneath Roc’s crisp flow, complemented by Premier’s signature scratched chorus. Premier describes Roc’s approach as “bragging without bragging,” a testament to Marciano’s subtle yet impactful style.

In a recent interview, Roc Marciano reflected on the milestone, calling the collaboration “a dream come true,” and encouraged fans to “play The Coldest Profession into the ground.” He emphasized how both artists broke the mold in today’s rap landscape—embodying authenticity and timeless craftsmanship.

The release stands not just as a reunion of two hip-hop icons, but as a bold statement of their continued influence, fresh creativity, and refusal to conform to prevailing industry trends.
