Yama Wayama’s Onna no Sono no Hoshi Vol. 5 has opened at No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Book Hot 100 chart released Sept. 17, covering the tracking period from Sept. 7 through Sept. 13. The latest volume of the comedy manga also topped Billboard Japan’s Hot Manga chart during the same week.
The fifth volume of Onna no Sono no Hoshi, a comedy series set at an all-girls high school, was released Sept. 8, approximately two years after the previous volume. The new book has now moved directly to the top of the overall book chart following its release.
The volume recorded No. 1 positions in both physical bookstore sales and e-book sales. It placed No. 2 in e-commerce and No. 10 in social-media activity, giving it top-10 placements across four of the chart’s five measured categories. Its overall point total was more than three times that of the second-place title.
Billboard Japan’s Book Hot 100 combines data from physical book sales, e-books, library lending and subscription activity, as well as social-media engagement. The chart therefore measures performance across both traditional and digital reading activity.
Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku Vol. 24, known in English as The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, debuted at No. 2. The volume placed No. 4 in both physical-store and e-book measurements. Osamu Nishi’s Mairimashita! Iruma-kun Vol. 50 followed at No. 3, with its physical-store performance providing the strongest contribution to its chart position.
Takeru Hokazono’s Kagurabachi Vol. 12 landed at No. 4, while Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan Vol. 25, which had previously debuted at No. 1 on the Book Hot 100, ranked No. 5 in the latest chart. Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki Vol. 11 followed at No. 6.
The rest of the latest top 10 included Keito Kimura’s visual book Visuarts at No. 7, Anata no Oshiro no Kobito-san — Gohan Kudasai, Hatarakimasu! Vol. 5 at No. 8, WIND BREAKER Vol. 27 at No. 9 and Isekai Nonbiri Noka Vol. 17 at No. 10.
Onna no Sono no Hoshi follows high-profile adaptations and continued interest in Wayama’s work. The series has been published as a comedy centered on the everyday lives of teachers and students at an all-girls high school, with the latest volume continuing the story that began in the earlier installments.
Billboard Japan has also announced that the next Book Hot 100 update will not be published on Sept. 24. The chart covering Sept. 14 through Sept. 20 is scheduled to be released Oct. 1, followed by the Sept. 21 through Sept. 27 tracking period on Oct. 2.
